چکیده

Abstract This study investigates the optimal conditions to deposit a thermal barrier coating using micro- and nanopowders in air plasma spraying (APS) process. The influence of APS process parameters on thickness, porosity hardness yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ; ZrO 2 × 8Y O 3 ) coatings deposited with single-electrode gun was determined. temperature velocity melted particles were determined by DPV diagnostic system decrease number experimental processes. current H flow rate changed this research. Metco-6700 YSZ micropowder has already been used spray physical vapor deposition. results suggest possibility it for APS. powder are characterized high (2,700°C–2,900°C) speed (>380 m/s). highest thickness obtained 6 NLPM (normal liter per minute) 800 A current. Difficulties observed feeding at higher flow. showed that APS, deposition Metco-6609, nanopowder normally suspension spraying, is possible. In research, fed carrier gas. around 40 μm thick had porosity. lowest 600 12 NLPM. coatings, unmelted spherical also visible.

Plasma spraying of micro-composite thermal barrier coatings

The thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) by gas tunnel-type plasma spraying exhibited ceramic-composite features consisting of a host oxide matrix ceramic with an embedded second phase material. The densities of the composite TBC were found to be higher than those sprayed with 100wt% ZrO2 or Al2O3. In the coatings produced with powder mixtures of 50wt%, the embedded splats are found to have a relati...

THE EFFECTS OF PLASMA SPRAY PARAMETERS ON THE MICROSTRUCTURE AND PHASE COMPOSITION OF THERMAL BARRIER COATINGS MADE BY SPPS PROCESS

In this paper the effect of plasma spray parameters, atomizing gas and substrate preheat temperature on microstructure and phase composition of YSZ coatings produced by SPPS process have been investigated. The experimental results showed that increasing the power of plasma, using hydrogen as the precursor atomizing gas and increasing substrate preheat temperature decrease the amount of non-pyro...

Influence on Thermal Barrier Coating Delamination Behaviour of Edge Geometry

Ceramic thermal barrier coatings are commonly used in gas turbine hot components (e.g., combustor liners/buckets and guide vane platforms). In components that are only partially coated or have cooling-air outlets, coating-end stress singularities may lead to the spallation of the coating. Depending on the geometry of the transition from coated to uncoated material, the severity of the stress si...

Thermal Fatigue Behavior of Air-Plasma Sprayed Thermal Barrier Coating with Bond Coat Species in Cyclic Thermal Exposure

The effects of the bond coat species on the delamination or fracture behavior in thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) was investigated using the yclic thermal fatigue and thermal-shock tests. The interface microstructures of each TBC showed a good condition without cracking or delamination after flame thermal fatigue (FTF) for 1429 cycles. The TBC with the bond coat prepared by the air-plasma spray ...

Phosphor-Doped Thermal Barrier Coatings Deposited by Air Plasma Spray for In-Depth Temperature Sensing

Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ)-based thermal barrier coating (TBC) has been integrated with thermographic phosphors through air plasma spray (APS) for in-depth; non-contact temperature sensing. This coating consisted of a thin layer of Dy-doped YSZ (about 40 µm) on the bottom and a regular YSZ layer with a thickness up to 300 µm on top. A measurement system has been established; which include...
